Apple buys asset management company Proximity

From Macworld: Apple has extended its stable of technologies with the purchase on Monday of Proximity. The company’s flagship product is artbox, an all-in-one asset management and workflow. Artbox manages clips, animations, stills and audio and is targeted at TV, news production and post-production workflows. Artbox integrates format conversion, storage, workflow management, and search and retrieval of media into a single device. (read more)

This is interesting news and something to keep an eye on as a creative professional. I’ve not used Artbox, but it looks very intriguing, and I’m looking forward to seeing how Apple implements its cool technology in its creative apps.

I can see it unifying Apples’ ProApps suite– one searchable, meta-tagable asset organization suite. Maybe even rising above Final Cut Pro and unifying all media in all Apple apps on your Mac– hmmm . . . the wheels are turning.
