What’s All That Junk in my Dock?
I got a couple of emails about all the programs in my OSX Dock that appeared in the Mac MediaCast episode 3 during the Final Cut Pro “Apple Reflection” tutorial. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the order (that’s how my brain works). Consider this my flavor-of-the-month “must have” software list (for now), with some exceptions (see the notes on each one).
Here they are:
1. Finder (duh)
2. Pathfinder
The most awesome Finder replacement anywhere.
3. Quicksilver
I’m not the only one raving about this must-have program. I’m realizing that I use Quicksilver so much that I really don’t need all this crap on my dock.
4. Dashboard (duh)
5. AdiumX
Chat program of choice - a little buggy, but integrates different chat engines into the same program.
6. Firefox
My lifeline to the Great Interweb.
Technorati Tags: apple, howto, mac, software

I don’t even use it . . . I get my mail online in Gmail.

Best BitTorrent program ever.

My burning program of choice . . . I’ve been using Toast as long as it’s been out.
17. Adobe After Effects 7
18. MOTU Digital Performer 5
My audio program of choice, works well with my MOTU Traveler interface. Though the new Soundtrack Pro is looking nice . . .
19. Motion 3
20. NeoOffice
I refuse to have Microsoft programs on my machine; this was my Word / Excel replacement until I made the jump to Google Documents.
21. Transmit
Best FTP Program ever.
22. Compressor
23. Sorenson Squeeze
I use Squeeze to make Flash videos for delivery on the web and in Brightcove players.

32. Adobe Photoshop CS2
and
33. Adobe Photoshop CS3
Huh? Still haven’t bought CS3 yet, so an unworking demo sits in my dock taunting me.
34. Think
Cool GTD program that puts up a black screen and helps you focus on one thing at a time.
35. Roxio Disc Catalog Maker
Used in conjunction with Toast to keep a spotlight-searchable record of what I’ve archived.
36. MOTU CueMix Console
Virtual mixing console interface for the Traveler for tracking in audio programs

Swiss army knife of video encoding programs. And it has a sense of humor . . . that goes a long way with me.

Yes, I Twitter. Add me as a friend.
